Now that we’ve all got single ladies playing in our heads (you’re welcome, but also, I’m sorry), can we all admit that being single is actually a lot of fun? Who wouldn’t want to be single (he says as he rocks back and forth scrolling hopelessly through Tinder)?

As my good deed of the week, I wanted to delve into the personalities and traits of different dating app users, to help all you single folks determine which app would be the best fit for you. Decent thought, right?

However, when the data surrounding the country’s most popular dating apps came back around, a different story started to unfold.

Dating app usage is on the decline

90% of of adults answered that they don’t use any dating apps, meaning that only 10% do. About 1.5 years ago, that number seemed to be a bit higher.

To confirm these findings, we asked:

More people are using dating apps less than they did last year.

Paralleling the question above, only 12% of adults say they do use dating apps (which is still within the margin of error). What’s even more telling is that when we only focus on dating app users, we find that 44% are using apps less, while only 35% are using them more.

Based on the growing talk of dating app fatigue, and falling consumer ratings among major dating apps, a decline in usage does seem possible. We will continue to track the topic.

So, What Does This Mean?

Well, if you’ve yet to find your cuddlekins, snookie muffin, bubi pie or (insert other corny pet name here) on dating apps, don’t be dismayed – it’s not you! Your future partner may just be taking some time off.

Because online dating can be incredibly time-consuming, between the constant profile updates and endless conversations, you may want to try heading over to Tinder, which seems like the digital place to be. And then there’s Match, which isn’t too far behind.

A few other insights include:

  • People who use Tinder and OkCupid are more likely to be 18-34.
  • People who use Bumble are more than 3x as likely to be 18-34.
  • People who use Tinder and Match are more likely to be men.
  • People who use Match are more likely to be 35-54.
  • People who don’t use any dating apps or websites are more than 3x as likely to be over the age of 55, despite growth in dating app usage among this age group.

And with that, I leave you with best wishes in finding your next beau or lady friend. There’s someone out there for everyone!
