Fewer Americans reported being comfortable with working, eating out, attending large events, and traveling last week compared with the week before. The downturn in overall consumer comfort comes as the CDC reports an increase in the number of COVID-19 cases nationwide.

Four of the six indicators in CivicScience’s ongoing COVID Comfort Index fell week over week, while comfort with retail shopping and going to movies saw modest increases. Americans’ comfort with going to major public events and going to work both fell the most, with each dropping by three percentage points. Overall, the index declined from 66.2 to 64.8, its lowest point in the past month. Check out our weekly COVID Check-In infographic for more details.
