1. The majority of Americans agree with President Biden’s decision to drop out of the 2024 presidential race.

After President Biden announced on July 21 that he would no longer seek reelection, consumer polling found that more than two-thirds of voting-aged Americans agreed with the president’s decision. Republicans are more likely to ‘strongly’ agree, although nearly equal percentages of both Republicans (67%) and Democrats (66%) are in favor overall. Independent voters are the least likely to agree with the decision.

The 2024 Olympics is in full swing, and many Americans are tuning in. The most popular way to watch the games is via cable TV. However, new CivicScience data show that a growing number of Americans are live streaming coverage via Peacock (up four percentage points from March 2024). Given that the games are available on a range of channels and streaming services, additional data show 13% of viewers are likely to start a new streaming subscription to watch the Olympics.

3. Most U.S. adults struggle with sleep, citing stress, anxiety, and depression.

July data reveal that 77% of U.S. adults say they have trouble sleeping. Among these respondents, 57% attribute their difficulty sleeping to stress, anxiety, or depression. Temperature control is also cited as a problem for more than a third of those who have sleep difficulties. It’s not surprising that a significant number of Americans (52%) invest in products to help them sleep, including over-the-counter sleep aids, special pillows and mattresses, and white noise machines. Gen Z adults are the most likely to use these and other kinds of sleep products.
