From DoorDash to Grubhub, many Americans enjoy the convenience and variety of restaurants available with food delivery apps. While restaurant delivery is nothing new, CivicScience tracking shows that the use of these services picked up dramatically during the beginning of the pandemic and has continued to grow since. Usage of the apps jumped from 22% in 2020 to 34% in 2021, and an even greater percentage use them today (37%).

Despite the majority ‘rarely/never’ using restaurant delivery apps (63%), 9% of Americans order from them at least once a week, 15% do so monthly, and 13% order a few times a year. So, who are these consumers? It’s clear from the data that the most avid users (ordering weekly) are on-the-move, spend more time online, and seek allergen-friendly food options.
