With news of the new Omicron variant of the COVID-19 virus ramping up – plus the winter season on the horizon – Americans’ comfort level with daily activities sank dramatically last week. CivicScience’s COVID Comfort Index, which tracks overall comfortability with regular activities like working, shopping, and eating out, fell by four percentage points, reaching a low point not seen since the week of Oct. 3. All of the individual component surveys that make up the index saw a decrease in comfort, including a five-point decrease for going out to the movies and four-point drops for shopping, traveling, and attending major public events.
