CivicScience’s ongoing COVID Comfort Index rose by one point last week, matching the previous 2022 high point of 65.3. And for the first time this year, the activity Americans are most comfortable with is eating out at restaurants. Seventy-five percent of U.S. adults say they’d be comfortable eating at a restaurant right now.

Overall, five of the index’s six components rose modestly week over week, while retail shopping comfort slid by one percentage point. But the index still remains within one point of where it was the week of March 20, signifying some lingering uncertainty among the population.
