In partnership with Hamilton Place Strategies, our ESI reports are published every two weeks.

The HPS-CivicScience Economic Sentiment Index (“ESI”) is a “living” index that measures U.S. adults’ expectations for the economy going forward, as well as their feelings about current conditions for major purchases.

The primary goal of the Index is to accurately measure movements in overall national economic sentiment, and to provide a more sophisticated alternative to existing economic sentiment indices.

Unlike other prominent indices that release consumer sentiment estimates infrequently, our ESI is updated in real time as responses are collected continuously every hour, every day. Large-scale cross-tabulation of survey responses and consumer attributes enable more granular analyses than are currently possible through prevailing measures.

Economic Sentiment Index

The HPS-CS Economic Sentiment Index is now available in real-time to a limited set of subscribers, who will receive access to a secure website with real-time results and analysis tools, email alerts when numbers shift, and private insights not made available on our public blog. These users will also be able to view sentiment data among key sub-populations, such as high-income consumers, frequent retail shoppers, people most likely to buy or lease a new car, or hundreds of other groups.

Public-facing ESI reports are published every two weeks, and in-depth reports published quarterly.
