When you’re traipsing around your neighborhood on Halloween, take note of which houses are decorated for the holiday and which ones aren’t. You might guess that people who decorate their homes for Halloween are much more likely to have kids. You’d be right. From there, you could guess that “Decorators” are more likely than “Non-Decorators” to see a new Pixar movie when it’s released.
But what else?
In the past couple of weeks, we surveyed 3,797 US adults asking if they decorated their house or apartment for Halloween.
In all, just over 1/3rd of Americans deck out their cribs with skeletons, ghosts, scarecrows, Jack-O-Lanterns, or other scary stuff for Halloween. Not that we are encouraging you to sneak inside these houses while your kids are stockpiling candy and high-fructose corn syrup, but if you can, try to figure out if the following little facts are true:
– A Decorator is more than twice as likely as a Non-Decorator to own a video game console
– A Non-Decorator is 2.5X more likely to use paper grocery bags
– A Decorator is almost 4X more likely to do Pilates
– A Non-Decorator is 2.5X more likely to buy sporting goods online
– A Decorator is 2X more likely to “always” carry a pocket knife.
– A Non-Decorator is 40% more likely to “strongly oppose” same-sex marriage
– A Decorator is three-and-a-half times more likely to say that Carrots are their favorite vegetable
– A Non-Decorator is 50% more likely to “strongly support” stronger consumer privacy laws
– A Decorator is 65% more likely to be on Twitter
– A Non-Decorator is 80% more likely to watch Drama shows on TV over others types
– A Decorator is 2.5 times more likely to watch documentaries on television
– A Non-Decorator is 48% more likely to say they are a healthy eater
So there you have it. A little fun, if entirely trivial, data to stuff in your Trick-or-Treat bag.
