From leggings and sweatpants to hoodies and athletic tops, the pandemic saw a huge surge in athleisure wear interest. Loungewear/leisurewear became all about comfort and convenience while working at home. However, as more people returned to public life, their apparel choices shifted toward casual wear (jeans, khakis, etc.) over loungewear. Despite this, the athleisure trend is still holding strong today, particularly among Gen Z.
CivicScience data show that nearly three-quarters of Gen Z say they’ve worn athleisure wear, far outranking the Gen Pop average (56%). And Gen Z is also more likely to be in the market for activewear/loungewear right now (30% vs. 19% of the Gen Pop).
