When it comes to consuming news, local TV news channels are a clear winner among Americans. According to CivicScience data, a third of U.S. adults turn to local news first for breaking news, surpassing all other media. Trust in local TV news channels is also strong. As of August 2024, consumers rank local TV news as the top source for unbiased reporting (29%, up from 25% in 2023). This compares to 12% who trust broadcast network news (e.g., NBC, CBS) and 11% who trust cable network news (e.g., Fox, CNN). Additionally, 28% of Americans say they watch local TV news channels daily.
