Believe it or not, ChatGPT is rapidly approaching the one-year anniversary since its debut in November 2022. According to the latest CivicScience data, awareness of ChatGPT has surged in the 10 months following its public release – 59% of U.S. adults claim they’ve at least heard of the platform, a significant leap from the 20% reported in December 2022. As the prevalence of artificial intelligence models like ChatGPT grows, the potential for advancements in various aspects of society seems limitless. Still, ongoing CivicScience tracking indicates consumer concern about the technology’s potential impacts (on entertainmentjob security, and privacy, to name a few), is perhaps equally as endless. 

Despite these anxieties, CivicScience polling finds the percentage of U.S. adults who are ChatGPT users has risen by nine points since December to 14%, while those expressing interest in trying the AI model has also increased by four points, reaching 9% over the same time frame.
